With creation takes confidence, and that is something I have be growing in a lot in
the last few years. My senior year I was given a chance to create a club for the pre-medical society.
We only had a little bit of help from a teacher and no idea what we were doing. I tried to establish
meetings, but because of other extracurricular activities it was hard for me to attend. I was nominated
and elected as the first president which was not something I would have usually stood up for. With our fundraising committee I tried to assign tasks, but nothing seemed to get done. We attended conventions, held meetings, and kept trying to make something of the club, but it was going nowhere. After graduating it seemed the club fizzed out. I was unable to keep my creation running and had not set up a sustainable plan for the organization.
I learned that I held myself back, didn’t offer my suggestions enough, and lacked the confidence to make bold decisions. I am proud of myself for taking the step to create the organization, but I was not able to take the necessary steps to keep it going. Out of the fear of being wrong or judged I held myself back to keep myself from feeling shame. As time goes on, I have learned how to assert myself, let myself fail, and build myself up for the next time I fall.
