GLOBAL IMPACT MINDSET
Global mindset is the aspects of a person that allows you to impact different people and groups from all different places.

-
How open am I to different ideas?
-
What have I learned about different countries?
-
Where will I go to learn more?

I stepped out of my comfort zone when I was offered an opportunity to be a nanny. The catch was that the family I would be staying with was across the Ocean. Within a month of finding out about the job, I was on my way to Spain. While I was there, I could get out of my bubble to learn how to interact and appreciate how another country operates. Simple interactions on the bus with the child I nannied made me anxious. With no phone, limited language, and only my favorite 6 year old friend to help, the tiny town seemed like a whole huge world.
The people of Spain work very hard in order to have time to enjoy themselves and their families. Most people know of the siesta or nap taken during the evenings, but that is a reward for hard work from the early morning until the late night. By learning the language and putting my customs aside, I learned a new way of living. I could feel myself adapting to the new way of doing things.
When I came back home, I went through another culture shock. There were times I would prepare to use Spanish in the store and jolted when the cashier asked if I wanted paper or plastic in English. Now, I am more comfortable being in uncomfortable situations where people are different from me. If someone is speaking a new language in the background it peaks my interest to wonder about their story. I am more open to asking people for help when I don’t know or understand the way or why they do things. By having a global mindset I feel as if I will be able to connect and include people from all different places in my organizations and add value to wherever I am.
